The Lacuna by Barbara Kingsolver
I love Barbara Kingsolver’s books. Her ability to draw you into a story is unmatched. Her narrative is beautifully crafted. Her vivid characters practically jump off the page. Here, the main character, Harrison Shepherd, born in the US and raised in Mexico, draws us in to a tale of cultural intrique. He unexpectedly encounters and explores the personae of Frida Kahlo, Diego Rivera, and Leon Trotsky, as he becomes bound up in their lives and history. (I encourage my former Spanish students to take a look at this one. You will love how things you learned about come to life.)
The Lacuna is wonderfully written historical fiction. If you haven’t read it yet, put it on your short list. You’ll be glad you did.
